Parent Education

UMS is a learning community for both children and adults. Throughout the year the community meets to further its’ understanding of both child development and Montessori theory.   Parents find these meetings valuable in understanding their child’s time in school and their growth in all areas.   Topics have focused on areas of the curriculum, the importance of completing the three-year-cycle, parenting, mindfulness, and nutrition and are tailored to the needs of the current community.

For the past several years UMS has hosted parenting coach Etta Legner’s class on Systematic Training for Effective Parenting with great success.  STEP aligns closely with the Montessori philosophy and principles.  A study group composed of parents and teachers who have completed the course meets on a monthly basis to continue to support each other in the development of STEP skills.
