Financial Assistance

University Montessori School strongly believes in the value of a Montessori education for all children, and makes every effort to assist families who wish to attend but are unable to pay the full tuition.  Distribution of financial aid is based on determination of need. Please note that UMS does its best to balance the high demand for financial aid with limited available funds.

UMS uses SSS, a third-party financial assessment organization to provide a framework for a household’s needs. An application is considered complete when the Parents Financial Statement (PFS) and Form 1040 & W2s are submitted to SSS. In addition, UMS asks that you submit a letter to SSS explaining your financial aid request and any extenuating circumstances you would like us to consider.

The dates to submit your financial aid request are below:

Returning Students:

PFS due January 27th; tax year 2015 Form 1040 & W2s and letter to SSS by February 3rd.

New Students:

PFS due February 20th; tax year 2015 Form 1040 & W2s and letter to SSS by February 27th.

The fee to apply for financial aid through SSS is $48. Families whose earnings are below the federal poverty line will automatically earn a fee waiver. Families who would like to apply for aid but find the fee a burden should talk to Heather about special circumstances.

Once UMS has received all applications and necessary forms, the financial aid committee will meet and reward aid based on demonstrated need. Families will be notified of the committee’s decision by late February.

If parents are separated or divorced, it is important that both parents submit applications.

Questions about the financial aid process can be directed to Heather; any questions about the technical application process should be directed to SSS Client Success Team at 800-344-8328.
